3 tips to do unbiased reporting

With the recent events in Furguson and New York City regarding protests and officers killing unarmed black men, the importance of unbiased reporting is greater than ever. Here are 3 tips for maintaining objectivity:

1. Have an open mind
If you feel a certain way about a topic or situation, make sure to try to remove that bias by keeping an open mind. This will allow you to cover all aspects of the story.

2. Get a variety of voices,
When looking for sources don’t just look for those that agree with your stance on the topic, because the viewer won’t be allowed to form their own opinions.

3. If the conflict of interest is too great, give the story to someone else
If the story is about a friend, family member, or someone that you know and you are afraid to write anything bad about them, then pass the story on to another person because you don’t want to ruin your reputation or your company’s.
